Knowledgebase & FAQ

Learn how to connect to your servers, manage your Cloud Wallet, and troubleshoot common network issues without waiting for a support agent.

How to connect to a Windows Server (RDP)

TrustHosting Windows instances are completely unmanaged and give you full Administrator access. To connect via your local computer:

  1. Press the Windows Key + R on your keyboard to open the Run dialog.
  2. Type mstsc and press Enter. This opens the Remote Desktop Connection app.
  3. Enter your server's IPv4 Address (found on your TrustHosting dashboard) and click Connect.
  4. When prompted for credentials, use the username Administrator and the Root Password from your dashboard.
  5. If a security certificate warning appears, click "Yes" to accept it and proceed to your desktop.

How to connect to a Linux Server (SSH)

Ubuntu, Debian, AlmaLinux, and CentOS machines are accessed via Secure Shell (SSH). We recommend using the built-in terminal (Mac/Linux) or PuTTY (Windows).

  1. Open your Terminal application.
  2. Type the SSH command: ssh root@YOUR_SERVER_IP and press Enter.
  3. If this is your first time connecting, type yes to accept the ECDSA key fingerprint.
  4. When prompted for the password, paste your Root Password. Note: As you type or paste, nothing will show on the screen for security reasons. Just press Enter.
Pro Tip: If you broke your SSH configuration (e.g. UFW firewall locked you out), use the "Reinstall OS" button on your dashboard to wipe the machine and start over.

Billing, Renewals & Auto-Suspension

TrustHosting operates on a strict pre-paid Cloud Wallet system. Here is how your billing lifecycle works:

  • Deployments: All server deployments are paid for exactly 30 days upfront from your Cloud Wallet balance.
  • Renewals: We do NOT auto-charge your credit card. To keep your server online, you must manually click "Renew Service (+30 Days)" on your dashboard before the timer runs out. Ensure your Cloud Wallet has sufficient funds.
  • The Suspension Phase: If your server reaches 0 Days Left, our automated system will instantly cut the power and mark the server as STOPPED. Your data is still safe, but you cannot turn the server on until you pay for a renewal.
  • Permanent Termination: If a suspended server goes unpaid for an extended grace period, the datacenter will permanently wipe the hard drive and recycle the IP address. This data cannot be recovered.
